Presented at Port of the Future Conference 2026

Alternative Fuels & Port Energy

Session Overview

Moderator: Jim Bunsey, Senior Manager, Business Development, Propane Education and Research Council (PERC)

Speakers: Chris Ransom, National Sales Manager, AutoGas; Kevin Herbert, National Account Manager, Capacity

Propane is emerging as a practical alternative fuel for port operations, improving air quality while reliably supporting global trade logistics. Its refueling infrastructure is affordable, scalable, and readily available across the nation’s alternative fuel corridors.

In addition to fueling vehicles, propane plays a key role in port resiliency by powering backup generators and providing prime power for cold ironing, charging systems, and other large industrial applications. It can be used across a range of port equipment including tractors, forklifts, reach stackers, empty container handlers, and rubber-tired gantry cranes.
