BELT SCALE TECHNOLOGY: IMPROVING ACCURACY, EFFICIENCY, AND TRANSPARENCY IN BULK MATERIAL HANDLING

For decades, draft surveys have been the industry standard for determining bulk material quantities loaded and unloaded through ports. However, advances in belt scale technology now offer ports, terminal operators, and cargo owners a more accurate, transparent, and operationally efficient alternative.
Drawing on over 30 years of global experience designing, implementing, and optimizing belt scale systems across mining, bulk commodities, and port operations, Alastair Boyd will explore how modern certified belt scales are transforming cargo measurement practices around the world.
This presentation will examine the limitations and risks associated with traditional draft surveys, compare them against modern belt scale solutions, and highlight real-world case studies where ports and operators have achieved improved accuracy, reduced disputes, enhanced operational visibility, and greater confidence in commercial transactions.
